New Co-Chair for Scottish Science Advisory Committee

New Co-Chair for Scottish Science Advisory Council

Dr Chris Masters has been elected by his fellow Council members to be the new independent Co-Chair of the Scottish Science Advisory Council until 2013.  Dr Masters has been an existing member of the SSAC since March 2010 and succeeds Ian Ritchie whose tenure as co-Chair ended in October 2011.

An industrial chemist by training, he has extensive experience in international business and is a fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh.

The role of the independent Co-Chair is to steer the Council to develop its own views on specific issues where it would be inappropriate for the Chief Scientific Adviser to take a leading role.  The Chair and the Co-Chair, jointly present advice developed by the Scottish Science Advisory Council to the Scottish Government.

Dr Masters first meeting as Co-Chair will be the March 2012 meeting.
