Peter MacPherson is an academic public health physician and Professor of Global Public Health at the University of Glasgow. His research focuses on the epidemiology and control of infectious diseases—particularly HIV and tuberculosis—across resource‑limited settings. He holds a prestigious NIHR Global Health Research Professorship and lead a Wellcome Discovery Award‑funded programme advancing novel methods for TB surveillance and prevention. Peter additionally leads several large international research programmes that advance diagnostics, surveillance, and prevention strategies for TB and HIV, supported by over £19 million in personal research funding. He regularly advise WHO and UNAIDS, and his work has directly shaped international guidelines and national policies to improve health outcomes in high‑burden settings.
