Jasmin Wertz is a Lecturer in Psychology at the University of Edinburgh School of Philosophy, Psychology and Language Sciences. She was previously based at Duke University in the US. She completed her PhD at King's College London and her undergraduate degree in Germany, where she’s originally from.
As a developmental psychologist, her research focuses on family and parenting influences on child development. She uses longitudinal and administrative data to address policy-relevant questions, such as how family environments shape children’s child development, how inequalities in child development emerge and persist, and how children’s behaviour and emotional problems affect economic, educational and health outcomes. She has experience contributing to policy-relevant interdisciplinary initiatives, including through her work on the IFS Deaton Review of Inequalities, for which she co-authored a chapter on the role of early childhood development in shaping inequalities.
Dr Wertz joined the SSAC on 1 October 2026.
