Mr Alan Settery

Mr Alan Settery is the Cyber Security Network Integrator for the Scottish Informatics and Computer Science Alliance (SICSA) whose role is to work across academia, government, partner organisations and industry to encourage investment and growth in academia to provide; skills and learning, capabilities and expertise, and research and innovation to underpin Scotland’s National Cyber Resilience Strategy to ensure Scotland is a safe and secure place to live and work.

 

He is a graduate of Newcastle University in Electrical and Electronic Engineering and a member of Institution of Engineering and Technology.  He moved to Heriot-Watt University to research underwater communications and subsea systems.  His main interest is in creating/managing university and industry led research programmes to grow new commercial business opportunities and markets.

 

He was recruited to Ferranti International as a Senior Engineer and transferred on-going research to develop a range of products for the Offshore Industry.  In 1995 he joined DERA/Qinetiq, worked on defence research programmes and managed one of DERA’s first Dual Use Technology Centres, based at Heriot-Watt University.  This was followed by another corporate role at Agilent Technologies as a Business Development Manager for mobile communication and wireless systems in Europe and Asia.

 

On returning to academia he has managed a broad range of university knowledge transfer programmes at Heriot-Watt (ESPRIT), Stirling (ERDF) and Edinburgh (SFC Smart Tourism) and is currently based at University of Glasgow engaged in SICSA Cyber Nexus.
