Dr Caroline Cantley

Caroline’s career spans both industry and academia, focused on engineering and technology-based business, strategic leadership and research. She currently holds an honorary appointment at the University of Strathclyde as Advisor to the Scottish Research Partnership in Engineering (SRPe) having previously held the post of inaugural Executive Director for six years to June 2022, providing leadership and strategic direction to the creation of critical mass in engineering in Scotland to help attract investment, leading researchers, industrial engagement, skills development and entrepreneurship and promote Scotland's strengths within the globalised world economy.

Her previous experience covers a broad spectrum of roles including providing technical consultancy services to power and energy clients around the globe, strategic leadership of industrial R&D portfolios, and on project managing ground breaking collaborative multinational projects such as the University of Glasgow Institute for Gravitational Research programme developing the LIGO detector network in the US.

She is a Chartered Physicist and a Member of the Research and Knowledge Exchange Committee of the Scottish Funding Council. Caroline graduated in Physics with Geology and gained her PhD in Experimental Physics in the field of gravitational wave detection at the University of Glasgow.
