New Year Honour for SSAC Member

 

Professor Alan Bundy CBE

Congratulations go to Professor Alan Bundy who was recognised in the New Year’s Honours List 2011.

Alan Bundy SSAC member and Professor of Automated Reasoning in the School of Informatics at the University of Edinburgh, was recently awarded a CBE for services to computer reasoning.

His research combines artificial intelligence with theoretical computer science and applies this to practical problems in the development and maintenance of computing systems. He is the author of over 200 publications and has held over 50 research grants.

He is a fellow of several academic societies, including the Royal Society of Edinburgh and the Royal Academy of Engineers. He was the founding Convener of the UK Computing Research Committee and is currently Vice President and Trustee of British Computer Society with responsibility for the new Academy of Computing. He is currently working on behalf of the BCS to provide computing science lesson exemplars for UK schools.

Professor Bundy is a particularly active and respected member of Council. He recently led a SSAC working group to produce their report Teleheathcare: Time for Action, which was published in early 2010. This report helped pave the way for a new partnership between the TSB and the Scottish Government for a £10 million investment in telehealthcare in Scotland.
