Julie Fitzpatrick is the Scientific Director of the Moredun Research Institute and Chief Executive of the Moredun Group.
Professor Fitzpatrick's research interests focus on livestock health and disease in the UK and in developing countries, especially mastitis, and animal welfare. Professor Fitzpatrick is a member of the University of Glasgow's Pain and Welfare Group, and she has an interest in developing means of assessing inflammation and immunity in endemic diseases of cattle and sheep. Professor Fitzpatrick is a member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) Research Committee and she also sits on the Board of GALVmed, a public private partnership focusing on supporting the development of biologicals and therapeutics for orphan diseases in developing countries. In Scotland, she sits on the recently formed Agriculture Strategy Implementation Group, the Animal Health and Welfare Advisory Group, and the recently appointed Agricultural Appeals Review Group for Scotland. She acted as Chairman of the BVA's Veterinary Policy Group (VPG) until 2007, and has been appointed to the RAE 2008 panel to assess veterinary, agricultural and food science areas. In 2003 she was awarded the G Norman Hall Medal for research into animal diseases by the RCVS Trust.
